Support your liver too! Gut-Liver Axis
“You don’t need to detox, your liver does that for you”
Hmm but what if your liver is overworking, becomes heated and actually needs help?
Sometimes we need to support our bodies through diet, lifestyle, and the removal of things like environmental toxins
The liver plays a central role in digestion, detoxification and regulation of hormones, so if its functioning is less than optimal, the symptoms can affect many different parts of the body. Common symptoms may include indigestion, nausea, bloating, flatulence and a reduced ability to tolerate fatty foods, fatigue, skin problems and so go.
Since coming off the pill as well, I had to support my liver with P2 Detox supplement (as advised by my naturopath) as I had large amounts of synthetic hormones to get rid of.
Basically, when certain hormones accumulate in the body, there may be an overproduction of sebum. This can lead to oil clogging the pores in the skin, which in can contribute to breakouts.
Chinese medicine also explains that when the liver is overworked (e.g due to process foods, alcohol, smoking, synthetic hormones, overload of trans fats, some prescribed medication etc.) it generates too much heat within itself, causing our whole body to overheat. The excess sweating is a reaction of the overheated body to cool body temperature, as a result there’s increased excretion of toxins through the skin, hence breakouts.
The intestinal tract (gut) and the liver are anatomically and physiologically connected so often acne is very common in people with a lazy bowel and sluggish liver.
I’ve created an info graphic for ways to heal and what to look out for! I am in no way an expert or providing medical advice, simply sharing what I know, my experiences in hopes to get you thinking about healing holistically instead of quick fixes that lead to greater damage.
Lots of love, your gal Liz
p.s This is why I also love @zilchacne [LIZPP] so much. Some of their herbs like Dandelion, Cape Jasmine Fruit, Ginger Root, Hedyotis etc helps clear heat and toxicity in the body aiding the liver cleanse. Also before Zilch, I took high strength milk thistle from the Now Brand and it was too strong for my body that I broke out into severe cystic acne- truly traumatised. I recommend a blend of gentle herbs as opposed to high strength herbs.
